Yvonne Jegede joins calls for release of Justice Crack

Actress Yvonne Jegede has appealed to authorities to release detained blogger Justice Crack.

In a video circulating on Wednesday, Yvonne said while he may have made a mistake, the matter should not be taken further.

She said: “Good morning. Good morning, everybody. I’m making this video addressing it to Brigadier General W.E. Adi Bikini. Good morning, sir. I am humbly begging for the release of Justice Crack. We have come to understand that he’s done wrong. We have come to understand that a civilian should not dabble into military stuff…”

Speaking on behalf of his family and associates, she expressed regret over his actions and urged that he be allowed to return home, noting the impact of his absence on his household.

She added: “Release him back to his family. Release him back to his family… it is quite unfair and inhumane to take away a breadwinner from his family… times are hard in Nigeria.”

Yvonne also apologised on his behalf and appealed for compassion from the authorities handling the case.

Justice Crack, whose real name is Justice Mark Chidiebere, was arrested weeks ago over alleged issues relating to online content involving military matters and has remained in custody while investigations continue.

Calls for his release have also come from activists, civil society groups and supporters, some of whom have staged protests and urged the federal government to intervene. Others have argued that his continued detention is excessive and have called for his release while legal proceedings continue.
