Yusuf Buhari fiancée’s bridal shower gown stirs controversy

A gown worn by Princess Zahra Bayero, daughter of the emir of Bichi and fiancée to the president’s son Yusuf Buhari has stirred controversy on social media.

Zahra wore a white off-shoulder gown to her bridal shower on Tuesday in Abuja.

While many congratulated her after photos from the event went viral, some were quick to point out the silence of the Hisbah Police in Kano and others who love to view such outfits from religious perspectives.

Hisbah enforces Sharia precepts in Kano, including ban on alcohol ban, prostitution, indecent dressing, and so on.

Many on social media have compared Zahra’s gown to a backless dress worn by Kannywood actress Rahma Sadau which earned the latter criticism last year.

Commenting on Zahra’s dress, @Drmuzoic on Twitter wrote, “Is she not a Muslim? #Arewatwitter what say you?”

Activist Aisha Yesufu tweeted in reaction to the post, “She is not one of the poor. The political Sharia practised in Kano is only for the poor. Hypocrisy at its stinking worst!”

Another Twitter user @iooxyl wrote, “Hair open. Shoulders open. No hijab. Shame on hypocrites.”

An #EndSARS promoter Rinu Oduala, tweeted, “LmoooowhereisHisbahooooooo.”
