The police in Enugu have arrested two women for allegedly kidnapping a boy in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson for the Enugu Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, in a statement on Wednesday said they were arrested on February 4.

Officers in Udenu Division had got wind of a syndicate that abducts and sells children in the area and acted swiftly, according to the spokesperson.

The suspects were attempting to kidnap the four-year-old boy, Ugwu Levi, who was leaving his school at Imilike Ani community when they were arrested.

‘‘Following their arrest, the suspects had revealed how they carried out abduction of a four-year-old school boy identified as Ugwu Levi Chiagozie from another Nursery/Primary School also located at Imilike Ani community on January 18.

‘‘They later handed over the four-year-old school boy to a nurse in Anambra State for sale.

‘‘Recovered from the suspects are little children’s wears, biscuits, chin chin, candies and other items that allegedly can be used to entice little children,’’ he said.

Amaraizu added that investigation is ongoing to determine if there are other members of the group.
