Wike’s wife recommended for elevation to Appeal Court

National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the promotion of Justice Eberechi Nyesom-Wike, wife of the FCT minister Nyesom Wike, for promotion to the Court of Appeal.

Eberechi, a justice at the Rivers State High Court, is among 21 others recommended for elevation to the Court of Appeal.

Also, Oluwakemi Ariwoola, daughter-in-law of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, was among the list of 12 judges recommended for elevation to the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The NJC came up with a list of 86 judges for possible elevation during its 105th plenary meeting held between May 15 and 16, 2024.

The council’s director of information Soji Oye in a statement dated May 16 and seen on Friday said, “All recommended candidates are expected to be sworn in after the approval of the NJC recommendations to the President and their respective State Governors.”

The NJC had resolved to issue warning letters to Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court; Justice G. B. Brikins-Okolosi of the Delta State High Court and Justice Amina Shehu of the Yobe State High Court, after the trio was found guilty of different degrees of misconduct.

Ekwo and Brikins-Okolosi were barred from elevation for two years and three years respectively.
