Why we deducted almost seven hours from Hilda Baci’s time – Guinness World Records

The Guinness World Records on Monday finally confirmed that Nigeria’s Hilda Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.

It comes almost a month after the 26-year-old completed her four-day cooking exercise on May 15.

The previous record of 87 hours 45 minutes was set by Lata Tondon (India) in 2019.

Almost seven hours were, however, deducted from Hilda’s final total of 100 hours because “she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt,” the Guinness World Records said.

According to the organisers, “the participant is permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks can be accumulated if not taken. They were the only times Hilda could use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt.”

Speaking further in a video released to announce the confirmation of Hilda’s record, the organisers revealed that the Nigerian chef miscalculated her rest break “meaning we are unable to award the 100 hours claimed.”

The Guinness World Records added that Hilda’s cook-a-thon was so popular that its website crashed for two days due to the immense volume of traffic received from her legion of loyal fans.
