Tajudeen Abbas elected House Speaker after ‘openly declare’ ballot system

The lawmaker representing Zaria Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas has been elected Speaker of the 10th House.

Abbas was elected on Tuesday in an “openly declare” ballot system.

His contenders, Ahmed Wase and Sani Jaji, polled three votes each.

He was sworn in after taking his oath of allegiance and oath of membership of the House.

Benjamin Kalu emerged unopposed as the Deputy Speaker.

Kalu was also sworn in after taking his oath of allegiance and oath of membership of the House.

The election of Abbas and emergence of Kalu are in accordance with the wish of the governing party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) backed by the opposition parties.
