Why I was unharmed in kidnappers den — Methodist prelate

Methodist Church Prelate Samuel Kanu-Uche

The Prelate of the Methodist Church in Nigeria Samuel Uche says God saw him through in the hands of kidnappers and kept him from harm.

A statement on Sunday said the prelate spoke during a valedictory visit to the Christ Methodist Cathedral, Nyanya, Abuja, on Friday.

The 70-year-old was on May 29, 2022, abducted by armed men alongside the Methodist Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, and his (the prelate’s) chaplain, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

A ransom of N100 million was paid before his release.

Uche likened his experience to the biblical account of Daniel who was not devoured while inside a den filled with lions.

According to him, whenever the kidnappers wanted to harm him and his fellow abductees, the gang leader would charge at them to stop.

“It was by the mercy of God that I was not harmed by the evil men,” he was quoted as saying.

Encouraged by the word of God, he said, “Though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, God will save His own.”

Uche urged Christians to trust and have faith in his God who saved him from the hands of kidnappers, stressing that it was by the mercy of God that he was not harmed.
