Why I started Nsukka Mega Carnival – Rachael Okonkwo

Actress Rachael Okonkwo has spoken about the origin of her annual Mega Carnival with Nkoli Nwa Nsukka as she announced plans for the 2026 edition.

Taking to her Instagram page on Thursday, she shared pictures from past editions of the event and reflected on why she started the initiative in 2015.

Rachael said the project was born out of a desire to give back to society and create a platform that supports young people, children and vulnerable women.

She wrote: “Big announcement 📣

“I started this vision in 2015 out of a deep passion to give back to create a platform that brings hope, joy, and real impact to youths, children, and vulnerable women.
This is not just a carnival ,it’s a movement.
A space for empowerment, unity, entertainment, and opportunity.
Free entertainment, outreach, business exposure, and unforgettable moments all in one place
We’ve been honored to host amazing Nollywood legends like
Patience Ozokwo (Mama G), Eucharia Anunobi, Ngozi Ezeonu, Mary Njoku, Ebele Okaro, Tonto Dikeh, Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki), Pete Edochie, Jackie Appiah, Mike Ezuruonye, Nkiru Sylvanus, Prince Nwafor, Ken Erics, Eve Esin, Babarex, Angela Okorie, Zubby Michael, Diamond Okechi, Calista Okoronkwo, Chinenye Uyanna and many more.

The Mega Carnival with Nkoli Nwa Nsukka is a community focused initiative that began in 2015. It combines entertainment with outreach programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, youths and small business owners.

The event is usually held in Nsukka, Enugu State, and has over the years featured Nollywood actors, musicians and other public figures. It also includes activities such as gift distribution, empowerment sessions and support for families in need.
