Filmmaker Ibrahim Chatta has addressed his continued exclusion from the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), expressing indifference toward the prestigious event.
During an appearance on skit maker Isbae U’s show, Ibrahim was questioned about his absence from the AMVCA nominations.
In response, he emphasised that awards are not his primary focus.
“I am not interested, why will I be praying for what I am not interested in? Whenever I am interested, I will submit a film and give it to them to see,” he stated.
Reflecting on the situation, Ibrahim added, “I have thought about it, why don’t they invite me because I see younger people attending and winning. Do you know how many awards are in my house?”
The 54-year-old, known for his significant contributions to Yoruba cinema, owns a film town and has been a prominent figure in the industry for years.
Despite his achievements, his works have yet to receive recognition from the AMVCA.
The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards was held on Saturday, in Lagos, Nigeria.
This year’s event featured 28 award categories, including the introduction of a new category, Best Music Score, aimed at honoring the creative professionals behind compelling film scores.
Leading the nominations was Femi Adebayo’s Netflix original, Seven Doors, with 11 nominations, followed closely by Lisabi: The Uprising with 10 nominations.
