We can’t keep quiet and be killed like chickens — Gani Adams

Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has said that the Yoruba people would not keep quiet and watch as they are being killed like chickens.

Gani Adams said this on Thursday on his visit to the leader of Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, over the murder of his daughter, Funke Olakunrin.

Mrs Olakunrin was killed on July 12 along Ore-Sagamu road by an armed gang.

Adams, however, said that the Yoruba would not go to war but would address the issue with the nation’s security apparatus.

His statement came on the same day the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, met President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that the South West people do not want war.

“We have the structure of security on the ground, the entire security apparatus. We can no longer allow our people to be killed like chickens. We can’t keep quiet while Yorubas are being killed like fowls.

“But we have to be careful not to fall into their trap. We have to be careful. It is good you see me in circulation to walk with you,” Adams said.

“We don’t want a situation we will walk into their trap because we realise that this ugly incident is being coordinated beyond our own scene.”

He also said that he was aware that the Fulani herdsmen have been infiltrated.

“We realised that there are some forces behind them in three phases. Those who strike in the bush, those who issue statements to back them up and those who are strategists who give instructions to those who strike,” he said.
