A student of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Katsina, Abdulmaleek Yaro, has died from injuries he sustained from three men who attacked him over his sister.

The 21-year-old died on Monday morning of suspected internal and head injuries at the General Hospital, Malumfashi, where he was rushed to after the attack on Sunday night.

Abdulmaleek’s father, Kabiru Ahmad, confirmed the incident to Northern City News on Tuesday.

According to him, trouble started when Abdulmaleek warned one Usein Abdul against making advances to his younger sister, Amira.

Abdulmaleek reportedly cautioned  Abdul against dating Amira, insisting that she was too young for a romantic relationship.

Ahmad said, “It was on Sunday evening about prayer time when Abdulmaleek struggled home, looking worn out and complaining about a terrible headache.

“His mother, who was about observing Magrib prayer, then called me to return home. When I got home and observed him, I discovered that his lower jaw and mouth were swollen while he kept complaining about  the headache.

“He told us that three men, including Usein Abdul, attacked and beat him while he just managed to struggle home with the help of some friends.”

The bereaved father added, “That night, we rushed him to the Malumfashi General Hospital where he was attended to. We were asked to come back the following day which was Monday, but unfortunately, Abdulmaleek died at the hospital.”

He said the case has been reported to the police.

The Katsina State Police Command spokesman, DSP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident.

He said three persons were suspected of attacking the deceased, adding that one of them, AbdulAzeez Kareem, 20, had been arrested.

“Efforts are on to arrest the two other suspects who are on the run.

“We already have one suspect, AbdulAzeez Kareem, with us,” he said.
