An Air Peace charter flight scheduled to evacuate Nigerians, who have arrived in Poland due to the crisis in Ukraine, has been postponed.

An official of the ministry of foreign affairs Bolaji Akinremi said the flight scheduled for take-off on Thursday was postponed due to a delay in preparing passengers for the check-in process, reports Channels TV.

The flight has now been scheduled for Friday morning.

Nigeria’s foreign affairs minister Geoffrey Onyeama said about 2,000 Nigerians have fled Ukraine following invasion by Russia.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved $8.5 million for the evacuation of Nigerians from Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania, countries that share borders with Ukraine.

Two flights from Air Peace and one from Max Air are expected to carry out the evacuation exercise.

Earlier in the week, Ghana carried out its first evacuation flight for its citizens.
