Two remanded in prison custody over assault on FRSC marshals

The Argungu Magisterial Court in Kebbi State has remanded two persons in prison custody for allegedly assaulting officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Magistrate Musa Alieru ordered that the suspects be remanded until July 24.

The suspects, Yahaya Yakubu, a commercial motorcyclist, and a passerby, Yusha’u Maishanu, had reportedly assaulted and resisted arrest by an FRSC patrol team from Argungu Unit Command in Kebbi State on July 18.

They are facing five-count charges of criminal force and assaults, obstruction public servant in discharge of duties, intentional insult, resistance of arrest, and mischief.

In a release on Friday signed by the zonal public education officer, Aliyu Maaji, the FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer for Zone 10 Sokoto, Assistant Corps Marshal Kayode Olagunju, warned vehicle operators and other members of the public in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states that the command would not hesitate to prosecute anyone that assaults any of the corps’ personnel in the course of performing their legal duties.

Olagunju also assured the public that any marshal or officer of the corps that goes out of bound to violate the rights of any member of the public shall be dealt with in accordance with extant rules and regulations.
