Sokoto police commissioner, Aminu Koji, said on Wednesday that two of the state’s police personnel were killed during the just-concluded governorship election.

He revealed their names as Abdullahi Maisaje and Usman Ibrahim.

Mr Koji told journalists that the officers were ambushed by gunmen on their way to Isa local government area on March 8 in preparation for the governorship and State House of Assembly elections on March 9.

He expressed condolences to the bereaved families, adding that they died in service of the fatherland.

The commissioner said both families of the deceased were given N1 million each by the state governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

He said the donation was not compensation for the dead as no amount could equate human life.

Koji handed over the money to wives of the deceased persons.

Maisaje’s wife, Maryam Abubakar, thanked the governor for the gesture.

She said her husband left behind nine children, comprising four males and five females.
