Two men lost their lives on Thursday in Obi town, Obi local government area of Nasarawa State.

The incident occurred at about 10am when one of the lovers trailed his rival, identified as Aliyu, and offered him a handshake before allegedly stabbing him in the stomach, an eyewitness said.

An irate mob caught up with the unnamed suspect when he tried to run away and immediately set him on fire.

A family member of the late Aliyu told The Nation that the 30-year-old was rushed to the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia where his mother works at the casualty unit.

“After our youths from Obi took him to the hospital, he said he wanted to see his mother, whose name is Hassana, who was also on duty yesterday morning.

“As soon as the mother came into the casualty unit and held his hand he gave up the ghost,” the source said.

Nasarawa Police spokesman, Othman Ismaeel, said the incident was reported at the Obi Police station by Aliyu’s father.

Mr Ismaeel added that the police had begun investigation.
