TVC fires 145 in mass sack

The management of Lagos-based Television Continental (TVC) on Friday morning carried out a mass sack of 145 staff with immediate effect.

Qed.ng learnt that almost all the affected workers were from the editorial department.

Workers in outstations were also affected in the downsizing.

Those affected by the mass sack were invited to the head office of the station in Lagos on Friday, where they were told that their services were no longer needed.

They were being paid their severance package at the company’s head office in Ikosi, Ketu as at the time of filing this report.

There was a heavy presence of security men at the company premises to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

Staff of the station blame the situation on bad management.

“How can you justify a situation where you have senior managers doing little and earning so much? We have three very senior managers in the finance department alone, yet the company is not making money. But it is the editorial department that is blamed for everything going on,” one of the affected staff who craved anonymity told Qed.ng.

TVC is owned by Continental Broadcasting Service Nigeria Ltd, which is also the parent company of Radio Continental.

This news medium reached out to some senior staff of TVC but they all declined to comment, saying they were in a meeting.
