Tonto Dikeh reacts to criticism over emergence as ADC Rivers deputy governorship candidate

Actress Tonto Dikeh has reacted to the criticism over her emergence as the deputy governorship candidate in Rivers State under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The governorship candidate of the party, Tonte Ibraye, announced the actress as his running mate in a statement posted on Instagram on Friday, June 24.

The statement read: “After series of consultations with leaders of our party the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State and the national level, I’m glad to announce Amb. Tonto Dikeh ( tontolet ) as my running mate for the 2023 gubernatorial election in Rivers State.

“We are pleased to welcome her to the #RiversRescueMission2023 as we strive to improve the standard of living for everyone in our dear Rivers State. Please join our press conference at 11 am today.”

The announcement, however, was met with mixed reactions as many questioned why the party would involve the controversial actress in politics.

Reacting to the criticism in an Instagram post on Sunday, Tonto encouraged everyone to get their permanent voters card to ensure positive change.

She wrote: “AS FAR AS MY EYES CAN SEE. I spy from my little eyes a GREAT NATION FOR A BETTER TOMORROW. CHANGE IS YOU AND I.. GET YOUR PVC.”
