Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi will on Wednesday join the second set of 2021 law graduates to be called to the Nigerian bar.

The ceremony will hold at Eagle Square in Abuja without guests due to COVID-19 restrictions.

His friend Dele Momodu congratulated him in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

“My very dear Brother, biggest congratulations are in order… Your determination and tenacity are just remarkable,” Mr Momodu wrote.

Afikuyomi, a University of Lagos sociology graduate, will be 60 in December.

He was a member of the House of Representatives in the short-lived Third Republic.

After years in exile during the Abacha years, in the aftermath of the June 12 election annulment, Afikuyomi returned to represent Lagos twice in the Senate.

He was appointed commissioner for tourism in Lagos State by Babatunde Fashola during the latter’s first term as governor.

Reports say Afikuyomi is planning a small reception at 5pm after the induction.
