Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, others mourn Kofi Annan’s death

Nigerian celebrities have expressed their shock and sadness at the death of former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, which occurred on Saturday at the age of 80.

Kofi Annan died in Bern, Switzerland after a short illness. It was reported that he had his wife, Nane, and their three children Ama, Kojo and Nina, by his side.

Annan’s foundation issued a statement on his Twitter account on Saturday morning that described him as a “global statesman and deeply committed internationalist who fought throughout his life for a fairer and more peaceful world”.

The statement added that Annan, who succeeded Boutros Boutros-Ghali as UN scribe, was a “son of Ghana and felt a special responsibility towards Africa”.

Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Kemi Adetiba and several others have taken to Instagram to share their condolences, with many of them describing Kofi as a legend.
