Three Lagos policemen deployed for Edo election die in Ondo

Three policemen who were deployed to Edo State for the recently held governorship election have died in a crash which occurred on Benin-Ore Expressway in Ondo State.

The policemen were returning to Lagos on September 20 when the accident occurred, PUNCH has gathered.

Some policemen who were also in the vehicle survived the crash but sustained injuries.

It was learnt that the corpses have been deposited in Ore General Hospital’s mortuary.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu had on September 13 deployed 1,000 policemen to complement the personnel deployed in Edo State by the Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu.

“Apart from the three policemen, who died on the spot, others sustained varying degrees of injury. The family of (Oluwafemi) Adeyanju has gone to claim his remains and buried him in his home town of Akure; we don’t know about the rest of the victims,” a police source was quoted saying.

Another policeman claimed the government abandoned them after completing their assignment in Edo State.

The paper said the Lagos police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi was yet to respond to requests for comments at the time of filing the report.
