Thief returns Lupita’s Oscar dress, says pearls are fake

Lupita Oscar dressA valuable dress that was stolen from the hotel room of actress Lupita Nyong’o after she wore it to the Oscars has been recovered, Los Angeles police said.

The 12 Years a Slave star’s dress was found dumped in trash bag at her hotel – days after it was stolen following awards ceremony.

Los Angeles sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said the dress found on Friday afternoon at a West Hollywood hotel “greatly resembles” the pearl-adorned Calvin Klein Collection by Francisco Costa dress Nyong’o wore to Sunday’s Academy Awards.

She says detectives are attempting to verify the recovered dress is the same one Nyong’o wore.

Thief put the dress in a garbage bag and returned it to The London hotel in West Hollywood.

He called news site TMZ to say that he sent the dress back because the pearls it is made from are fakes.

The white custom Calvin Klein gown Lupita wore to present J. K. Simmons’s Best Supporting Actor Oscar was one of the biggest stories of the award night.

Encrusted with 6,000 white Akoya pearls, Fortune estimated it was worth $150,000.

The 31-year-old actress is yet to speak on the recovery.
