Teenage boy charged with robbing pedestrian with toy gun at bus stop

A teenage boy, Francis Emeka, who allegedly robbed a woman with a toy gun at bus stop, was on Friday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Emeka was immediately remanded in prison on the orders of the Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Akokhia.

She directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Emeka, 19, who resides at Ajangbadi area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

He allegedly committed the offences with others still at large on January 24 at Wolyboy Street, Ajangbadi in Ojo area of  Lagos.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that the the accused had robbed the complainant, Mrs Sarah Eloise, with a toy gun of her phone, cash and other valuables estimated at N305,000.

“The complainant was attacked while returning home from work at a bus stop.

“The accused forcefully collected her belongings at gunpoint but was apprehended by passers-by when the complainant raised alarm,’’ he said.

The offences contravened Sections 297 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The case was adjourned until March 30.
