TambuwalGovernor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has ordered the immediate payment of scholarships to all Sokoto indigenes studying in various schools across the globe.

This, according to a statement issued by his spokesman, Imam Imam, is in fulfillment of the administration’s promise to ensure the best education available to Sokoto citizens and to uplift the standard of education in the state.

It said approval has been granted for the payment of the sum of N387,990,012 for students studying in schools in Europe, America, Asia and some African countries, excluding Uganda, Sudan, Niger Republic and Bangladesh.

The statement said for payments to students in the four countries mentioned above, a verification committee has been set up to ascertain the true number of students there and the institutions they are attending.

The government has equally set aside the sum of N503,590,856 for payment to Sokoto indigenes studying in schools across Nigeria.

However, a verification exercise to determine the number of beneficiaries of the state scholarship in schools across Nigeria will be undertaken with a view to capture them in the new biometric data system, after which payment will be made.

While reiterating government’s determination to ensure adequate and prompt payment of allowances and other entitlements to all students, Tambuwal urged the officials in charge of the payment to ensure the exercise is carried out in the most transparent manner.

The statement urged the students to reciprocate government gesture by dedicating themselves to their studies and ensure that government investment is not wasted.
