Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, is mourning one of his mothers-in-law, Hajiya Rahmatu, who died on Thursday night at the age of 85.

According to a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Musa Krishi, the deceased was the mother of Hajiya Hussaina, the Speaker’s first wife.

She was laid to rest at the Tukur-Tukur cemetery in Zaria on Friday following Jumma’at prayers.

The Speaker attended the burial alongside Chief Whip of the House Usman Kumo, Minority Whip, Ali Isa, district heads from the Zazzau Emirate, clerics and other sympathisers.

In a heartfelt tribute, Speaker Abbas described the late Hajiya Rahmatu as a virtuous woman who touched the lives of many.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of our mother, Hajiya Rahmatu Bello Mukaddas, who was more than a mother-in-law to me,” he said.

“She lived a virtuous life worthy of emulation. Not only was she a peacemaker, she was also a symbol of unity. She leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, tolerance, and love.”

He prayed that Allah (SWT) would accept her soul and grant her a place in “Jannatul Firdaus.”
