Sylvester Oromoni’s father counters coroner on judgment

Sylvester Oromoni late Dowen College student

Sylvester Oromoni, father of the late 12-year-old student of Dowen College in Lagos Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, has disagreed with the judgment of the coroner inquest that attributed his son’s death to negligence.

Oromoni died on November 30, 2021.

His parents alleged that he was bullied by some students and forced to drink a poisonous substance.

They also claimed he mentioned that he was beaten up by five senior students of Dowen College whose names were Favour Benjamin, 16, Edward Begue (16), Ansel Temile (14) Kenneth Inyang and Micheal Kashamu, 16, son of late Senator, Buruji Kashamu, before he died.

However, on Monday, the Coroner Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri held that the boy died as a result of failed treatment of his enlarged liver.

Kadiri held that the negligence of the parents and their family doctor, Henry Aghogho, in Warri after finding out he had an enlarged liver led to the boy’s death.

Speaking with the news media shortly after the judgment, the bereaved father rejected the judgment.

He said, “Medical experts did not give a concluding result. They said they saw a substance inside the body of the boy, and what was the substance? Was it tested? It wasn’t tested.

“So this (the judgment) is not the end of the case. As far as I am concerned, it does not represent the true procedure of the evidence taken.”

Oromoni said he would speak with his lawyers to decide the next move.
