Activist Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho has suspended the Yoruba nation rally which was scheduled to hold in Lagos on Saturday.

The move followed an attack by gunmen at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital on Thursday morning.

The activist told BBC Pidgin that the rally had been suspended, adding that it was not safe.

Sunday Igboho alleged that the gunmen who attacked his house were dressed in uniforms of the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Army.

According to him, two persons were killed in the attack.

“They killed two people during the shooting, they destroyed my property, my vehicles,” he said.

Leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, Emeritus Prof. Banji Akintoye, also alleged that Sunday Igboho’s wife was abducted.

Prof. Akintoye had said in a statement that the rally in Lagos slated for Saturday will hold as planned.

“We want to confirm again that the Pro-Yoruba Nation rally scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 3rd, in Lagos will proceed as scheduled,” the statement read.
