Activist Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho has been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic after being declared wanted by the Department of State Services.

The Yoruba Nation agitator was apprehended by local police on Monday night at an airport in Cotonou. He was reportedly heading for Germany.

A source quoted by PUNCH said Sunday Igboho will likely be repatriated to Nigeria on Tuesday. “He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany. The security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday,” the source said.

The activist is wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms after security forces raided his Ibadan residence in the Soka area on July 1, 2021. Twelve of his aides were arrested while two were killed in a gun duel.

Sunday Igboho had denied the allegations levied against him.

The Federal Government recently raised alarm that the activist was trying to obtain a fake passport in order to leave the country.
