A body has been recovered from the wreckage of the plane carrying Cardiff City footballer, Emiliano Sala, and pilot David Ibbotson.

The wreckage of the plane, which vanished two weeks ago, was discovered
on the seabed by marine scientist, David Mearns, off the island of Guernsey.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch said specialist contractors joined the body removal operation in “challenging conditions”.

It was carried out in “as dignified a way as possible” and the Emiliano Sala’s family who are at the Argentine consular in France were updated as well as the family of the pilot.

The body that was recovered was taken to the Isle of Portland to be passed on to the Dorset coroner for identification.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster Cronica TV on Monday after the wreckage was discovered, Sala’s father Horacio said: “I cannot believe it. This is a dream. A bad dream. I am desperate.”

Emilano Sala signed for English Premier League side, Cardiff City in January 2019.
