Soyinka: Twitter war erupts over presidency’s fiction writer comments

Wole-Soyinka

Nigerians on Twitter have begun throwing banters over the Presidency’s description of Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, as a fiction writer following his doubts on the legality of President Muhammadu Buhari’s lockdown order.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement late Wednesday advised Soyinka to write a play on the coronavirus pandemic, after the emergency is over, rather than attacking measures put in place to tackle the spread of the deadly disease.

“In the meantime, we ask the people of Nigeria to trust the words of our doctors and scientists – and not fiction writers – at this time of national crisis,” he said.
