Soldiers clamp down on fitness enthusiasts on Gbagada expressway

Soldiers take over National Stadium

Law enforcement authorities, including soldiers, have dispersed fitness enthusiasts on Gbagada expressway in Lagos after residents raised alarm over the incident which violated the social distancing order by the government.

Chief Press Secretary of the Governor of Lagos, Gboyega Akosile, said on Wednesday on Twitter that soldiers ‘swung into action’ to prevent recurrence of the incident.

He wrote: “#StayAtHome but you MUST go out in the name of exercises. So the Nigerian security agencies including the army, have swung into action to make it easier for them to burn the calories this morning on Gbagada Expressway. This looks like frog jump. #StayHomeSaveLives.”

The Federal Government had on March 30 imposed a 14-day lockdown on Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory as part of measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
