Singer, Simisola Ogunleye, popularly known as Simi, has suggested that force could be employed to ensure that people stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

The 31-year-old made the comments on Twitter on Wednesday.

“If they won’t stay inside for a few weeks until this cup passes, then hide ur own family inside. Even if it’s by force…,” she tweeted.

When other users on the platform pointed out that some people are at risk of losing their livelihoods if they follow the rule, the ‘Joromi’ singer replied, “I love my people. That’s why I said stay inside. If we refuse to find a way to manage for a few weeks, hunger will be the least of our problems.”

In reply to a user who accused her of being out of touch and insensitive, she tweeted, “I acknowledge my privilege, but they should stay inside. I always speak on the ills of society, of the government – so I can’t be guilt-tripped…”

This is not the first time the singer has talked about the topic.

On Tuesday she tweeted, “Heard they closed the borders to some of the worst affected countries. I’m grateful for that. It’s a start. I know, as Nigerians, many of us think we’re invincible because we’ve survived so much – but I beg you, pls stay safe. Wash hands, stay away from crowds as much as possible.”
