Shut down BBNaija now or I’ll use my spiritual power, pastor warns FG

Prophet-Ebelenna-Chukwu

An Anambra-based cleric Prophet Ebelenna Chukwu has threatened to use his “spiritual capability” to shut down the ongoing reality TV show Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) if President Muhammadu Buhari-led government fails to do so.

In a video which has since gone viral, the preacher said the future of the Nigerian child is at stake if the Federal Government should allow the programme to continue.

He claimed that children who have been asked to engage in online classes due to the closure of schools over the coronavirus pandemic now use their smartphones to watch Big Brother Naija.

“If Nigerian government does not shut BBNaija down, I will shut them down by force. With my spiritual capability, I can do it. I know who I am. I am not a prophet that is boasting. With my spiritual level, I will destroy BBNaija,” he said.

Chukwu runs Jehovah the Mightier than All Prophetic Church in Onitsha, Anambra State.

It was reported that the Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed had asked the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to stop the transmission of BBNaija.

The minister was said to have called for an end to the show due to the coronavirus – a report he denied.

But the producers of the show MultiChoice Ltd reportedly told the NBC that it got approval from Lagos State Safety Commission. It also said housemates were isolated for 14 days before the show began and also that the BBNaija House had been disinfected and rearranged to ensure physical distancing, in addition to the elimination of live audience.

The season five edition of BBNaija is currently rolling with 20 housemates competing for the grand prize of N85 million.
