Shocker: Former Abuja NUJ chairman, Chuks Ehirim, dies on 50th birthday

Immediate past chairman of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Chuks Ehirim, is dead.

He died on Thursday morning at the Garki Hospital, Abuja.

Secretary of the NUJ FCT, Mrs Ramat Salami, confirmed the sad news, saying “he died after a short illness.”

A source close to the deceased informed Qed.ng that he was recently on admission at the Kuje General Hospital, Abuja for treatment of typhoid fever.

Born on June 16, 1966, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), died on the day he clocked 50.

He was until his death the deputy editor at Global Paragon magazine.

Starting as a student reporter with UNN’s official newsletter, The Record, Ehirim went on to work for TheNews/Tempo, Daily Independent, TheNiche and National Accord.

Friends and colleagues who visited his Facebook page on Thursday to leave birthday messages were shocked to discover he had died.
