Shaibu Husseini has assumed office as the executive director of the National Film Video and Censors Board (NFVCB) and hosted officials from the streaming platform Netflix.

Husseini met with the officials after assuming his role at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Led by Shola Sanni, director of public policy, for Sub-Saharan Africa, the team had a fruitful discussion with staff and heads of the agency.

The director general expressed his appreciation for Netflix’s significant impact on the Nigerian film industry, applauding their efforts in elevating the standard of movie making, empowering filmmakers economically and creating jobs.

Speaking during a meeting with his staff, Husseini urged them to adhere to professional best practices and productivity to ensure the board effectively fulfils its mandate.

According to him, the board, as a critical stakeholder in the nation’s creative sector, particularly the film industry, is expected to discharge its statutory functions “in the best professional manner.”

He urged NFVCB’s staff to be more productive to ensure that the motion picture industry contributed maximally to the national economy in line with the ‘renewed hope’ mantra of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He said: “I am an open book; I assure you I will carry everyone along. Incidentally, I have associated with the Board as a journalist since its formal take off in 1994. So I am home. Therefore I expect that you all will treat me as a family member.”

Mr Husseini pledged that NFVCB would work together as a family in the best interests of stakeholders and the nation.

Therefore, he solicited the cooperation and support of the board’s management and staffers across its offices nationwide to enable him to achieve his vision.

The director of administration, Mr Ferdinand Abua who earlier welcomed the executive director to the board, assured him of the support of the staff and management to move the board forward.

Shaibu Husseini and 10 others were appointed new chief executive officers (CEOs) for agencies under the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy by Presientt Bola Tinubu in January 2024.
