R&B singer and songwriter, Praiz, was on Tuesday detained by policemen in Lagos after his car was stopped along the Lekki-Epe expressway.

According to a report by thenet.ng, the Kogi-born musician was on his way to the end of year party of his label, X3M Music, when he was stopped by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives.

The ‘Show Me Love’ singer’s phone was allegedly smashed by the men after he attempted to record what was going on.

He was then taken to a station in Ajah following which Assistant Force Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos, Aliyu Giwa, and others intervened to secure his release.

The 33-year-old eventually made it to the X3M Music party.

Giving their own account of what happened, Lagos State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Chike Oti, told Linda Ikeji Blog that Praiz was driving at top speed when policemen stopped him for “stop and search”.

“However, as soon as he stopped and they began questioning him, the police claim he immediately brought out his camera and began filming them while shouting at the top of his voice at them.  Oti said that at this point, police officers asked him to follow them to the station to explain what led to his outburst,” the report said.

Oti added that Praiz was stopped by regular policemen not SARS officials as widely reported on social media.
