Saraki accused of personalising Senate president’s Twitter handle

Bukola Saraki

Immediate past president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has been accused of personalising the official Twitter handle of the Senate president.

Tolu Ogunlesi, new media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday accused Mr Saraki, through his media aide, Onemola Olu, of personalising a verified account set up for the Office of the Senate President.

Mr Ogunlesi posted a screenshot of the verified account which has now been renamed “Former Senate President of the 8th Nigerian Senate”.

Buhari’s aide said Saraki ought to have handed over the verified account to the new Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and then have his tweets archived as @SPNigeria8thSenate ‘or something similar’.

“I’m confused – how can you personalize a verified account set up for the Office of the Senate President of Nigeria?” Ogunlesi asked.

“The proper thing is to hand over @SPNigeria to new President and then convert the archived ABS page to @SPNigeria8thSenate or something similar.”

Another new media aide to Mr Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, agreed with Ogunlesi.

“That’s the best thing to do. I think @SPNigeria8 is available,” Mr Ahmad said.
