Sanwo-Olu visits site of Oba Akran plane crash names Lagosians who first responded to incident

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday visited the scene of the plane crash which occurred at Oba Akran in the Ikeja area of the state.

A single engine fixed-wing Jabiru aircraft with registration number 5NCCQ, crash-landed with two passengers on board around 4pm.

The two occupants were rescued and taken to a hospital, Mr Sanwo-Olu’s spokesman Gboyega Akosile said on social media.

He added that Sanwo-Olu commended efforts of all the first responders as well as residents who joined in the rescue mission.

Commenting on his visit to the scene, Sanwo-Olu wrote in a social media post, “I visited the location of the helicopter crash for an on-site assessment.

“The incident involved a single engine fixed-wing Jabiru aircraft with registration number 5NCCQ that crashed at Oba Akran avenue in Ikeja

“Thankfully, both passengers on board were successfully rescued and are currently receiving medical attention.

“The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), whose responsibility it is to investigate incidents of this nature have already commenced investigations.”

The governor named two persons whom he was told responded first to the incident and saved the day.

“We are indeed thankful that we got a very quick response both from Lagos State Emergency Service (LASEMA) and all the residents of the neighborhood, especially as I am told, two very gallant citizens; Oluwafemi and Opeyemi who were the very first set of people that looked for water to help quench the fire, and were also able to help rescue the two passengers that were trapped inside the helicopter. They were truly the heroes of today,” he wrote.
