Sanwo-Olu ‘saddened’ over train accident in Ikeja

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said he is saddened by the news of the Thursday morning accident involving the state’s staff bus and a train at PWD, Ikeja area of the state.

Two persons have already been confirmed dead while several others are seriously injured.

“Investigation gathered revealed that the immediate cause of the incident was due to reckless driving on the part of the BRT bus driver while trying to beat the train traffic signal before the moving train rammed into the BRT bus,” the state’s emergency agency said.

Mr Sanwo-Olu prayed for the deceased and for those who sustained injuries.

He said via social media, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the accident which occurred this morning involving a Lagos State staff bus while conveying staff of the Lagos state government, to their duty posts and offices.

“May God in His infinite mercies grant those who lost their lives eternal rest, and give complete healing to all those who were injured.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and colleagues during this difficult time.

“A big thank you to well meaning Lagosians who immediately joined in rescue efforts.”

The governor added that the state’s emergency workers are on ground and he would continue to monitor the situation.

He assured that those involved in the accident will get the treatment and assistance they need.
