Saminu Turaki, youngest Nigerian governor in 1999, clocks 60

Ex-Jigawa governor Saminu Turaki

Former governor of Jigawa State Saminu Turaki, who was the youngest state chief executive in 1999, on Friday clocked 60.

Turaki was elected governor at age 35. He was on the seat for two terms.

Prior to that, he was the Jigawa state chairman of the defunct Social Democratic Party and United Nigeria Congress Party.

Celebrating him on Twitter, the former governor of Enugu State Chimaroke Nnamani said Turaki was restless but smart.

“The youngest of 99 is 60 today. Elected at 35. Saminu, one of the world’s smartest. Though with an inherently ‘restless spirit’ Happy Birthday. Congratulations. To God be the glory,” he wrote.

Senator Nnamani was governor also from 1999 to 2007.
