The Police Command in Jigawa on Wednesday said it had arrested one of the nine kidnappers, who allegedly killed two captives after collecting N3 million ransom from their family.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Abdu Jinjiri, told newsmen in Dutse that the suspect, datti Buba, 40, was arrested on Tuesday in Bauchi State through a tip-off.

Jinjiri said the suspect had allegedly connived with eight others to kidnap two children aged 13 and 15, in Kafin-Madaki, Gwaram Local Government Area early last year.

“The Jigawa police command has succeeded in arresting a kidnapper, who had been on the run since last year.

“He connived with eight others and kidnapped two persons from Kafin-Madaki in Gwaram Local Government Area and later killed them after collecting N3 million as ransom.

“Eight other suspects are still on the run and the command is doing its best to apprehend them,” he said.

The kidnappers had been terrorizing residents of the area since 2017.

About 30 kidnappers had in January 2017, kidnapped the Village Head of Rijin in Gwaram Local Government, Alhaji Garba Mamud and his brother, Malam Dauda Mamuda.

However, some days after, the police apprehended one of the suspects in connection with the incident.
