Singer, Rema, has responded to the criticism over his lyrics which some critics have claimed are difficult to understand and sometimes meaningless.

In a tweet he sent out on Friday, the 20-year-old whose real name is Divine Ekubor, proclaimed that his lyrics, which he called his ‘Benin Lamba,’ are part of his Edo heritage which he will never be ashamed of celebrating.

“I’m a proud Edo boy, I’ll forever celebrate my culture, I no go shame to use my Benni lamba, they can call me crazy all they want because they don’t understand it but I will never box myself to please anybody. When I hear beat I must misbehave! get used to it,” he wrote.

This is not the first time the ‘Woman’ singer has addressed the issue, in January, he claimed that some of the words in his song, ‘Lady’ are slang words from his hometown of Benin after fans complained that they were meaningless.

He tweeted, “I learnt all these slangs from my hood in Benin city, they all actually have meaning. I create my sounds freely, I can not limit my creativity because of ‘what people will think’ I’m confident in my vibe, accept it. Thank you.”
