Protect your anatomy

Your body is one of the most valuable things you have. Just like a house, it could be clean on the inside and outside. Like a house, there could be a state of the art security system, a high fence and electric gates turning the place into a fortress. On the other hand, just like there are houses without security, there are bodies that every chemical going has access to, not to mention the biological entrants.

The house, however, does not grow and neither can it get stronger when heavier people stand to inhabit it. The human body is special in that it can adapt. Even though it stops growing in height after a certain age, the muscles and bones get stronger as they get exercised with increasingly heavier loads.

We all own bodies and we should learn to treat them well, for they are like cars. They move us all around and that means we can go to those nice places we love. Unlike cars that have a limit to how much fuel we can put in the tank, the body can take in and store as many calories as are on offer. Soon the weight of stored ‘fuel’ weighs the machine down and things grind to a halt. Perhaps Tesla should device electric bodies that can be charged all night without the need for food. The obesity problem gets sorted straight away as electricity will never make appliances obese. Imagine if laptops took in more electricity than needed and stored the excess as laptop fat. That could mean your Apple Mac could double in size overnight.

Eating too much food is one of the biggest threats to our anatomy. Just like the house of a hoarder where useless items are stored in every single space, the body of the obese has fat stored everywhere. It wobbles when the subject works although in a twisted ironic way, the wobbling fat of African women is an alluring spectacle but that is a topic for another day. Passengers on commercial flights have luggage weight restrictions and so it must be for sojourner on this great planet.  In addition to food wreaking the anatomy, there is sex, drugs and rock and roll. Short term pleasure but long term high blood pressure.

The brain is an important part of the anatomy and years are spent improving it through both formal and informal education. Unfortunately, after preliminary education, the owner of the brain proceeds to numb the brain with various chemicals in the name of ‘relaxation’ till the cognitive capacity starts to deteriorate.

Strange how despite technological advances the simple things remain. We still drink water and lose the water in sweat and urine. Parental advice is still needed. The strongest people are the youngest ones but they have the least experience about life. The most inventive minds are usually the young and inexperienced minds. That is the way the football teams have young players and older coaches and the start-ups with young whiz kid founders have older CEOs who have been around the block a few times. Too much strength, talent and drive packed into a young individual is rewarded with wealth, and what follows next is a destruction of the mind and body without good guidance.

Now if a house becomes undesirable it could be replaced. The same goes for the car. But when the body falls apart, it is not always easy to start the rehabilitation process, talk less of going through with session after session of detox, physiotherapy, psychotherapy and aerobic exercise. A total anatomical rehab is hard the older and more set in one’s ways that one gets. Prevention is better than cure.

Drink only water, eat no junk food, take no drugs, have a single lady driver (if you know what I mean) and exercise an hour daily. If after all that, you anatomy still fails, then all I can say is such is life.
