In a move that should come as a surprise to no one, Governor Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday said he has heeded the clarion calls of the people of Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District to contest the senatorial seat in 2015 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Akpabio, who stated this at Ukana in Essien Udim LGA when the youths of Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District presented him withthe senatorial nomination form for the forthcoming PDP primaries at a reception organised by Esop Mbong Ikpaisong Afud Annang, said “I have been under pressure by the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District to represent them as a senator in 2015. I want to say that I have accepted the call to serve my people.”

Akpabio commended Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District youths for their show of love and support to his administration, saying that “Akwa Ibom State is a peaceful place because youths have shunned criminality. Youths have supported government efforts in the state and this is why we are able to build a state of equal opportunity for all the youths.”

Representative of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District youths, Chief Moses Akpan, while presenting the nomination to Akpabio commended him for giving Akwa Ibom State a voice at the national level.

“The governor still has capacity to do more for the Senatorial District, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria. This is why we have decided to send him to represent us at the Senate in 2015.

“We are sure that he will give us effective representation and make our state proud,” Akpan said.

Earlier, President of Esop Mbong Ikpaisong Afud Annang, Obong James Obosi, thanked Akpabio, who hails from the tribe, “for giving his effective leadership and uncommon transformation of Akwa Ibom State.”

Obosi said Esop Mbong Ikpaisong Afud Annang had earlier met and passed a resolution urging Akpabio to vie for Senate in 2015 in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.
