The police in Edo have rescued a traditional ruler, Enogie Godwin Aigbe of Ukhiri, in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of the state, who was abducted last Saturday.

The command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed his release to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Thursday.

Mr Nwabuzor said the monarch was rescued by the command’s anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit acting on intelligence report.

He said the monarch was rescued Wednesday night at about 10:00 p.m. at Upper Sakponba axis of the area.

The abductors were said to have contacted the family with demands for a ransom to be paid in foreign currency.

But the spokesman said no ransom was paid before the traditional ruler was rescued.
