Police kill ‘notorious’ Ibadan robber

A man identified as a notoriousrobber, who specialised in terrorising residents of Tipper Garage, Kukumada, Ogundbade Road in Ibadan, was shot dead by the police in the early hours of Friday.

The suspect, with his accomplices now at large, had allegedly robbed the residents of the area before information got to the police.

Parading the deceased, whose identity could not be ascertained, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Adekunle Ajisebutu, explained that prompt information given to the police led to the gun battle which resulted in his death.

Items recovered include locally made guns, cartridges and mobile phones.

Ajisebutu assured residents of the Oyo State capital that the police would continue to ensure the safety of lives and property, adding that information given by members of the public would be treated with confidentiality.

One of the victims of the robbery incident, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said the robbers broke into the house through the window.

Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Egbeda Unit, Moses Adisa, said activities of robbers had put palpable fear in the heart of residents.
