Police in Lagos have blocked the bank account of Super TV chief executive Usifo Ataga to prevent further withdrawals from it following his death.

According to reports, about N5 million has been withdrawn from his account already.

Mr Ataga and a woman had lodged at an apartment for at least three days.

The suspect, according to the police, stole Ataga’s personal belongings after allegedly stabbing him severally.

The victim was to travel to join his wife in Abuja to celebrate his birthday before he died.

“The place where the incident happened is a block of flats and the lady, who rented out the flat is in our custody. She has been using the place for short-let and does not live there; she is assisting us with the investigation,” Lagos police commissioner Hakeem Odumosu told PUNCH.

The commissioner added that Ataga was found in a pool of blood wearing only a pair of boxers.

He said the crime scene is a residential area which was not licensed for hotel services, and that the owner of the apartment did not have proper documentation of those who checked in.

Mr Odumosu, however, confirmed that the suspect checked in before the Super TV boss.

“The victim’s bank account has been blocked to prevent further withdrawals. Investigation is on for us to get to the root of the matter. But if the place has full security apparatuses, it will be a bit easier for us,” he said.
