The Police in Kano have arrested the state deputy Governor, Nasiru Gawuna and the State commissioner for local government, Sule Garo, for allegedly disrupting collation of results.

Mr Gawuna and the commissioner were held into custody some minutes after 2 a.m. on Monday when they allegedly tried to disrupt collation of results of governorship elections at the Nasarawa local government area collation centre.

The alleged scene they tried to create halted the announcement of results at the centre after some youth suspected to be supporters of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) tried to attack the two officials.

The deputy governor is expected to be released without charges since he still enjoys constitutional immunity from prosecution.

As at the time of their arrest, results from 43 of Kano’s 44 local governments had been announced and the PDP candidate, Abba Yusuf, was leading the incumbent Abdullahi Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
