Police arraigned man over alleged possession of hemp

A 30-year-old man, Fabamise Ademayowa, was on Wednesday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of hemp.

Ademayowa, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of possession of hemp.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 20 at Temidire Street in Oye-Ekiti.

Okunade said that the accused was caught with 70 wraps of hemp.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 5 of the Hemp Act.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the accused,Timi Omotosho, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Adesoji Adegboye, granted the accused bail of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Adegboye adjourned the case until Dec. 21.
