Police arraign three men for alleged possession of marijuana

The police, on Wednesday, arraigned three men before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Mr. Jimoh Adefioye for alleged possession of six wraps of marijuana.

The accused persons are; Chinonso Izueke, Oyam Raphael and Omokpia Ogbemudia.

The trio, whose addresses were not made available, are facing one- count charge of unlawful possession of marijuana.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 29 at Marina area of Badagry, Lagos State.

He alleged that the accused persons were smoking marijuana at a bar when they were apprehended by the security guards.

“After searching them, six wraps of weed were found on them and they were handed over to the police,” he said.

Ikem said the offence contravened Section 5 (1) (b) Cap. of the Indian Hemp Act, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The chief magistrate granted each of the accused persons bail in the sum of N100,000 and three sureties in like sum.

Adefioye adjourned the case to January 17 for further hearing.
