Police arraign 2 men for alleged stealing

The police, on Thursday, arraigned two applicants, Chukwunonso Anyanwu and Olando Ibrahim in a Grade 1 Area Court in Mpape, Abuja for allegedly stealing property valued N115, 000.

The police charged the defendants, who live in Dogo Block, Mashafa Road, Mpape, Abuja with joint act, housebreaking and theft.

The prosecution, M.M. Austin, told the court that the defendants on Oct. 29, broke into the house of one Ann Ugwor, who was away from home.

Austin said the duo also stole a plasma television, a set of home theatres, all valued N115, 000 and some clothes of which the value was unknown.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 79, 346 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Salihu Ibrahim, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one reasonable surety each in like sum.

Ibrahim ordered that the sureties must live within the court jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until Nov. 4 for hearing.
